Million Calorie Burn Update | March 26th, 2018
We’re over halfway through the 2018 Million Calorie Burn! Since February 15th, 164 different riders have burned a total of 525,131 calories at Revolution Cycling Studio. That’s an impressive average of 13,819 calories per day. (In case you were wondering, that’s almost ten calories per minute for every minute of every day.)
Last year, it took us 73 days to burn 1,000,000 calories. Our challenge this year is to improve on that number…and as of March 26th, we are on pace to finish in 72 days. We need every calorie we can get!
When we hit 1,000,000 calories burned, Island Athletic Club, Useless Bay Coffee Company, and Bayview Bicycles will donate a total of $500 to the Forgotten Children’s Fund. If we can hit 1,000,000 calories in fewer than 73 days, we’ll double that donation to $1,000.
See you in class!
The Million Calorie Burn Returns to Revolution!
We are excited to announce the return of the Million Calorie Burn to Revolution Cycling Studio. Beginning February 15, we’ll tally all calories burned in every cycling class, racing to a total of 1,000,000.
Once again, we’ll be running this event as a fundraiser for the Forgotten Children’s Fund, based at the M-Bar-C Ranch, right here in Freeland on lovely Whidbey Island.

Giddy up. Let’s get ready to ride!
New cycling classes are here!
Beginning September 5, we’ll be offering more cycling!
CycleFIT will consist of 35 minutes on the bike followed by a 20-minute Tabata Style body weight workout.
Look forward to 40 minutes of cycling followed by 15 minutes of off-the-bike core strengthening exercise.
A brighter, more efficient Club
You may have noticed that Island Athletic Club has a new look, both inside and out: In May, the facility’s existing lighting was converted to LED bulb technology. All of the indoor spaces–from the lobby all the way back to the pool–are now lit by LED bulbs.
The same goes for our parking lot light poles and the bollards that line our exterior walkways. Where we once had orange-hued high pressure sodium bulbs, we now have bright, clear LED light.
This upgrade, which was made possible in part by rebates from Puget Sound Energy and the Bellingham-based nonprofit Sustainable Connections, will reduce the Athletic Club’s annual electricity usage (for lighting purposes) by an astounding 54 percent, or more than 31,000 kilowatt hours per year. That’s enough to power three homes for the entire year!
Summer Closure is over! Our doors are open!
Thank you for your patience as we completed these necessary projects. We also thank the intrepid employees of Island Athletic Club for their hard work during Closure.
Examples of projects completed this Closure:
- Repainting of the entire Club interior
- Resurfacing of the men’s locker room floors (wet areas)
- Resurfacing of pool decking
- Sanding, re-painting and refinishing of strength equipment
- Deep cleaning of all equipment and surfaces
- Repair and patching of parking lots
